Role of foreign remittance in Bangladesh

Foreign remittance is the amount of money that is sent by migrant workers of Bangladesh from different countries. The contribution of migrant workers has been playing a very significant role to the development of socio-economic condition of Bangladesh.

The remittance income of these workers is not only increasing foreign currency reserve of Bangladesh Bank but also strength the position of Bangladesh in the world remittance income statistics.

The economic foundation of our country becomes stronger and stronger with the help of valuable and hard working money of migrant workers.

Formally, the export of manpower to foreign country has been started in Bangladesh in the year 1976. There are approximately 11.46 million Bangladeshi workers working in 155 countries of the world.

Most of ther workers are from the village of Bangladesh. They don’t get any government co-operation, guideline, training and subsidy. Most of them have no education and any asset. But these people are pullling-up the economy of the country by hard working in abroad.

Record, Shows that, remittance inflow of Bangladesh increased by 17 percent in the fiscal year 2017-2021 and volume is USD 14.98 Billion. This figure is second heighest amount ever till date.

The figure of remittance for fiscal year 2016-17 was USD 12.77 Billion. The experts says that, if all the foreign remittance of migrant workers are routed through banking channel the remittance volume of Bangladesh for the latest fiscal year would be more than USD 15.00 billion.

Government should formulate some special programs with a view to aware that people in route level about the procedure of migration to foeign countries and after migration the leggal channels of sending forign remittance.
